Big Brother Hotshots: Nigeria’s Tayo, others for eviction…as two housemates get the boot

After one-week of seeming familiarity among housemates, tension heightened, Sunday night, in the ongoing Big Brother Africa reality show tagged ‘Hotshots Edition’, after two housemates were evicted, leaving their cronies in tears.

Such is the reality of the show, which has staked $300, 000 prize money on the would-be winner, following normal, but constructive backstabbing that will see many facing evictions until the last man standing.

There was palpable silence as 12 housemates were asked to stand during the eviction on Sunday night. And as the first ‘hammer’ landed on Resa, a contestant from Zambia, her friend, Sipe, wept profusely.  While Resa felt unperturbed as she was asked to leave the house before joining the show host, IK, on the live stage for her interview, another female housemate, Esther, shouted: “I love you Resa.”  Although the evictee, with a wry smile, told IK that she was at peace with the turnout of events, she said she would miss Sipe the most.

The second evictee, Mira, is the first to be associated with romance in the house. The Mozambican lady, who was initially thought to be shy, surprised many when she kissed Luis and Nhlanhla during the party on Friday. The scandal soon passed, as it was blamed on alcohol. Mira came to the ‘limelight’ again when her name was announced as second evictee. She lunged into Luis’ arms for the last embrace, kissing him, as the bespectacled young man cried and was comforted by Idris and Sipe.

Hardly had the 24 remaining housemates retained their breathe from the eviction scare than Big Brother, the unseen lord of the game, invited them to the diary room for secret nomination for next week evictions. Called in alphabetical order, each housemate must nominate two others from the Green team, the group that had lost the Extravaganza contest the previous day. The team of 13 had the two Nigerian housemates, Tayo and Lilian, as members.

Housemates, fans to Tayo: you lack respect for women

Incidentally, Tayo is among the three housemates who have been nominated for possible eviction next Sunday. The other two are Frankie from Rwanda and JJ from Zimbabwe. While many distaste Tayo for being loud and abrasive, others believe that Frankie is laid back. For JJ, he is said to often display a ‘know-it-all’ attitude.

Perhaps the housemate with the most obvious attack was Tayo whom, according to Permithias, often disrespects women.

Few days back, the Nigerian model was heard shouting and cursing Miss Nigeria, whom he described as lacking in virtues. He said the organisers of the beauty pageant did wrong by crowning her. Although he did not mention the name of the beauty queen, he said: “You people know who I am talking about,” shouting at the top of his voice, while facing the camera. His grouse: the said beauty queen had visited South Africa, his current base, on a show and he had asked for her BBM pin, a request which she declined. He said he heard, a few days later, that the lady had been telling her friends that the reason she denied him her contact was because he had a ‘Bold 5’ phone which, in her estimation, is substandard.

Consequently, Tayo had boastfully called the model unprintable names, using the ‘F’ word and promising a showdown with the beauty queen someday.  He also talked about his ex- girlfriend, a South African lady who, according to him, said he cannot ever become rich. He described his presence in the Big Brother house as an uncommon feat and a stepping stone to his greatness.

Another incident that appeared to have angered the Nigerian housemate was the appointment of South Africa’s Samantha as the new Head of House (HOH). Tayo, who was close to winning, alongside four others who made it to the qualifying round, became the most upset of the losers. His nerves got the better of him, as he started ranting and raving to the annoyance of others, including fans who called him a sore loser.

“Tayo will be evicted with this stinking attitude. He will not go far,” said a fan.

“Tayo is flipping annoying. His random outbursts are unnecessary, and if that’s being real, I don’t know…,” said another.

However, he still has a lot of support from many, who saw beyond his ‘loudness’. “People should stop hating Tayo and Lillian for using the ‘F’ word. They are adults and it isn’t a kindergarten show,” one defended. “Tayo does not annoy me. In fact, he entertains me,” said another.

Adeboye calls for more Christian drama ministries

The wife of the General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Folu Adeboye, has charged Christians to support Christian drama, saying it is a veritable medium for evangelism and discipleship.

Adeboye made this appeal at the World Premiere of With Wings Like an Eagle and Pastor’s Wife’s, the pilot of the RCCG Drama Department television serials last weekend. The project is in conjunction with the Redemption Television Media, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Pastor’s Wife is a satire, a mirror of what pastors and their wives are going through. It focuses on conflict in their official duties and the burdens placed on the shoulders of their wives. With Wings was written in 2011 in attendant with the annual convention of RCCG.  It is a story about the intervention of God in the life of Bisoye, a serious Christian, fervent in evangelism and prison ministry which takes her to the zenith of her career. Her faith in God and salvation made a difference in the life of Akin, a boy with a hopeless life.

According to Adeboye, the need for the church to support Christian drama is important, as it can help to save lives, restore homes and shape destinies of millions of people around the world.

She said that a Christian drama ministry based on the scriptures had the capacity to reach many unreached people with the gospel message and get them convicted of their sins and make their way right with God.

She noted that the drama serial, Pastor’s Wife, is a welcome development to the needs, aspirations, challenges and godly principles needed for pastors’ wives in managing their homes and the church.

Adeboye, who pledged to support the production of some episode of the Pastor’s Wife drama series, appealed to Christians to work together and be part of the vision financially and spiritually.

The Managing Director of Redemption Television Ministry, Pastor Bamisile Badmus, said the two films were aimed at addressing the breakdown in marriages and rekindling hopes, through Christ, of the hopeless people around the world.

“The pastor’slife is one of the most difficult for women to bear. A pastor’s wife goes through a lot of work. We will learn how they build their homes in the midst of societal pressure”, he said.

Weeping accompanied by intense emotions will rent the air today, as the remains of Taiwo Oshadipe, one of the singing duo of the sensational singers, The Oshadipe Twins, will be interred at the Victoria Court Cemetery (Now Vault), Lekki Expressway, Lagos, almost two weeks after she passed on.

In a release, Olumide Akinsanya, manager to The Oshadipe Twins, said the body of the late singer and actress would be moved from the Lagos State University Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja at 8.00a.am for burial at the cemetery at10.00a.m.

Meanwhile, as part of the activities heralding her final journey, family members, friends, colleagues and fans converged, yesterday, on the Lagos Television (LTV) ground, Ikeja for a candlelight procession.

Amidst palpable sober mood, the procession later left the LTV ground about 5.00p.m. for MITV, Ikeja, where a prayer session and an oration service were also held, amidst uncontrolled emotions. It was all tears again as the procession returned to LTV for the final session of the service.

The talented gospel singer died penultimate Friday, after complaining of chest pain.  She had been rushed to LASUTH by her twin sister, Kehinde, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.

In an earlier interview with The Nation, Akinsanya had recalled his last moment with the deceased, saying, “The illness wasn’t serious. She was admitted at LASUTH and was discharged a week after. When she started taking her drugs, she felt better. But surprisingly, she started having chest pain again. So, she called her doctor who treated her at LASUTH. The doctor asked her to come over to his private hospital, as he wouldn’t be around at LASUTH until Friday. She went to the hospital and the doctor checked her and gave her some drugs. He also gave her another appointment for Friday at LASUTH. She took the drugs and again she felt better. But in the early hours of Friday, she started complaining of chest pain again. This time, it was very severe; so, her twin sister, Kehinde, rushed her to LASUTH. But she was confirmed dead on arrival. So, about 8.00a.m., Kehinde called me and I had to rush to LASUTH to see her for myself. It is still very shocking to me.”

Big Brother Hotshots: Much ado about Tayo

$

hile tension among nine housemates who have been put up for eviction this Sunday has aroused some upheavals, two lovebirds, Idris (Tanzania) and Goitse (Botswana) have provided the sunny side for fans and fellow housemates.

But perhaps Tayo’s ‘naughtiness’ is a natural trait, as the Nigerian model continues to make more ‘enemies’ over his perceived egocentric and proud mien.

Emotions ran riot, Tuesday afternoon, for which Samantha, the current Head of House (HOH) had to remind the parties of the risk of being kicked out the house, should their fight get physical.

Trouble started when Tayo walked in to find JJ rapping in the bedroom with Alusa, Frankie, Trezagah and Mr. 265. The Nigerian did not fancy the free-styling lyrics, and as usual, he spoke his mind. Like a timed-bomb, a quarrel ensued, with the guys lashing at Tayo for daring to criticise the act. A physical combat was averted as other males forced the fighters back, while the women helped in calming them down.

Peace returned to the house much later, but the talking continued in small groups, with Samantha wondering if she had handled the matter well, in her position as the HOH. Lilian too, was wondering if Tayo, her countryman, was satisfied with her for not taking side with anyone.

Away from tension in the house, Idris has been fighting hard to get Goitse to either kiss or sleep with him, or so it seems. But from indications, the Botswana lady couldn’t be seduced so easily. While many fans see their act as dry romance, others praise Idris for being real, and the lady for not being easily swayed.

As a mark of endorsement by fellow housemates, they prepared dinner, just for the couple. It was a smart way of getting out of the tension that had engulfed the house.

The intimate dinner for two was prepared outside with red roses in place as a centerpiece. Nhlanhla and JJ cooked the meal, while throughout the dinner, Ellah, Sabina, M’am Bea and Luis served the food.

Over dinner, Idris tried to get to know Goitse better, asking if she believed in long-distance relationships. As usual, Goitse appeared evasive, as she toasted to friendship. Idris read the love letter he had composed for her. He thanked her for the date and she replied pleasantly, she always did. But despite the romantic treats, Goitse did not give a definite answer. She told Idris she had to take time with her decision, and he said he was prepared to wait.

If there was anything that brought tears to the eyes of Tayo, the self-acclaimed Nigerian hero, it was the news of the delivery of his new baby boy.

Tayo was called to the diary room where Biggie broke the news to him. He was moved to tears. He and his fellow housemates had just come out of rigorous dance training. Although he still had traces of sweats, the tears were distinct.

“I am a father. I am a father,” he exclaimed, as he walked out of the diary room.

The extrovert had told housemates days before that he and his partner are expecting a baby. It was a moment when ‘friends and foes’ rallied round the Nigerian. They all embraced him and toasted him on the news of his heir.

Hours later, he learnt, like eight others, that he had been nomination for possible eviction this Sunday. Feeling sober afterwards, Tayo apologised for losing control in the clash with JJ.

Babasola Oluwaseun, a graduate of Estate Management from the Osun State College of Technology, is an actress, make-over artiste and screen player. She has acted in over 30 movies, including several TV soaps. In this interview with BABATUNDE SULAIMAN, she talks about her love for acting, her most unforgettable moment and more. Excerpts:

COULD you recall your journey into acting?

I started at a very tender age, specifically when I was seven, in my church, C.C.C., Ona -Ara Parish, Iwaya-Yaba, Lagos. So, when I got admission into the Osun State College of Technology to study Estate Management, I joined the Drama and Choreography Units in my church, Redeemed Christian Fellowship (RCF) in Esa-Oke, Osun State. The reason is I have always had a passion for entertainment.

Professionally, how long have you been acting and who introduced you into the movie industry?

I started acting professionally nine years ago, but nobody introduced me into the movie industry.

Didn’t you join any of the caucuses at the outset of your career?

When I heard the radio jingle of an acting training school, A.A. Ajibola Institute for Arts & Culture, Osun State, I decided to put in.

What was your first acting role and how did you clinch it?

My first acting role was in Okan Eda, where I acted the leader of the witches. It was produced by my boss, the founder of A.A. Ajibola Productions.

Could you recall your first appearance in front of the camera?

My first appearance was in 2001 in a movie titled Bantale, a Christian movie produced by Bro. Femi Ilori and RCF, Esa-Oke. I acted only one scene in Bantale

Were you intimidated in anyway acting with some heavy weights on that set?

I was never intimidated!

So far, how many movies have you acted in?

I’ve featured in almost 30 Yoruba movies, including Omo-Oba, Jebure, Okan Eda, Oyeku Meji, Awa Ni, Ekun O jeran Ikasin e.t.c. I have also done some soap operas like Atori L’aye , Odu to da iwa, Tales by Moonlight, Face-to-Face e.t.c.

Which has been your most challenging role till date?

My most challenging one was in Okan Eda, where I acted a witch! But I did it to the Glory of God.

What about your most daring role so far?

It was in Face-to-Face as one of the naughty tenants.

If you are given a role that requires you to expose some flesh and you think it is relevant to the story line, will you pick it up?

I can play any role, but can’t expose my body unnecessarily. I respect my dignity than any other thing.

What else do you do aside acting?

I do some other things aside acting. I’m a make-over artiste and screen player in the movie industry. Apart from this, I have a mini factory, where I produce liquid soap and germicides.:

How do you juggle your roles as a wife and an actor?

Though I’m not married yet, I am very homely when I’m not on any location.

What do you want in a man?

You sound like you have once suffered disappointment in the hands of a man?

Not really! The reason is the Christ in me is the hope of glory!

Can you date an actor?

Actors are like other men out there; so, if we are destined to be together, why not? I can even marry a movie producer, not necessarily because of movie roles.

Don’t you think people will say it is to give you some edge in the industry?
