BEAUTIFUL South African broadcaster, Mabel Mabaso appeared to be running at close range, when she spotted Nigeria’s Wale Akinlabi, who was on another track. It was a lonely planet of ideas, and she thought the race would be sweeter together. She signaled to him and on getting closer, that infatuation led to greater things they thought they could share with Africa. The child of that literary track race merger is what today has given birth to Planet TV Nigeria.

Modeled after South Africa-based television, Planet TV, a satellite station now runs in Nigeria, where from both countries the rest of Africa is fed with great content.

The two ‘track racers’; Nigeria’s Wale Akinlabi and South Africa’s Mabel Mabaso, who addressed a press conference penultimate Friday, said they are out to engage African youths through their lifestyle, music and entertainment channel.

Mabaso said that he station which has been running in South Africa for four years, and now has a satellite studio in Nigeria, she said, has a live uplink facility that allows four hours of live programming from the Nigerian studios.

The connectivity is expected to allow stars and fans go live on television under one roof.

“Planet TV eliminates borders in television offering more general entertainment/lifestyle content from South, West Africa and the world at large,” said Mabaso.

Formerly known as PRTV up until March 2015 when the rebranding came, the channel is currently showing on GOTV Channel 73. The TV also boasts of live programme where viewers can partake by calling in, video calling via Skype, interacting with their channel via Twitter, SMS and Facebook. Planet TV is 80 per cent African and 20 per cent international.
